CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – John Dawson of Clarksville has officially declared his candidacy for the Republican nomination for state representative in District 67.

Dawson was born in Memphis and has resided in the Clarksville area since 2005. He retired from the U.S. Army in 2007 as a non-commissioned officer after serving his country for 20 years.

He said his campaign will focus on education, community and public safety concerns.

“I believe the people of District 67 deserve a representative that knows and understands that they are hired to be there for the people. This is about serving the community through sincere, transparent and effective state government that hears their voice.

“As we campaign across the district, I look forward to hearing from the people and better understanding their thoughts, ideas and concerns. I believe that we need a solution-first attitude in the state government. If elected, I will bring my advocacy and leadership background to work in order to protect taxpayers, improve how our government works for its citizens, and help improve education and public safety in our community.”

District 67, recently redrawn, covers the middle section of Clarksville, from the Kentucky state line to the Cumberland River.
