CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Wildcats of Clarksville High School hosted the Patriots of Henry County for a baseball game on Thursday. CHS came away victorious, 5-4, and completed the series sweep after winning 12-0 on Monday.
Chip Harris started on the mound for the Cats. The Patriots threatened a big 1st inning, but Clarksville’s defense turned a double play to get themselves out of a sticky situation. Scoring started in the bottom of the second, when Clarksville’s Laine Welch came to the plate with bases loaded and two outs. Welch held on until ball four, walking in DH Briley Hagewood for the first run of the game. A groundout on the next at-bat spared the Patriots more pain.

Henry County wasted no time replying in the top of the 3rd, with Carter Hedges hitting a double to bring in two runs. The Wildcats struck right back in the bottom of the inning, with Hagewood securing a double of his own to bring in 1B Brody Lanham and tie the score, 2-2.
Clarksville’s final three runs came in the bottom of the 5th. SS Preston Brooks started things off with a double; then, trying to catch Brooks as he stole third base, the Patriots overthrew the ball. Brooks advanced to home plate to give the Wildcats the lead. Clarksville kept moving through the lineup, eventually bringing in two more runs by Hagewood and 3B Parker Frost.
Henry County made things interesting in the top of the 7th, but Clarksville reliever Bennett Mobley and the defense made a stand. With two outs, Peyton Charles hit a double to bring the Patriots within one run. Unfortunately for the Patriots, Mobley responded by killing their comeback with the final out of the game.
This win put the Wildcats at 2-1 on the young season after a 6-4 loss against Goodpasture on Tuesday.
