CLARKSVILLE, TN – The Clarksville Branch of the NAACP is inviting residents to fellowship on Saturday, Jan. 1, at 11 a.m. as we celebrate our 2022 Jubilee Day Service. The service is presented annually to remind us of the plight and accomplishments of our fore-parents that culminated in the access we have to society today.
It was on Jan. 1, 1863, that the slaves of the state of Tennessee were set free. Yet, it wasn’t until Aug. 8, 1863, that they received the official declaration from their masters.
Because freedom is so vital to the fabric of a democracy, the NAACP has adopted the annual Jubilee Day celebration as our choice to keep the well-fought battles of our fore-parents in focus.
