CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Law enforcement are investigating a non-specific threat of violence against Northeast High School Friday that was made via a post on social media.

According to Anthony Johnson, chief communications officer for the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System, a post was circulating on social media Thursday evening warning students not to attend school due to a non-specific rumor of a threat of violence.

Johnson said that while a specific school was not named in the post, school resource officers and school officials received concerns from Northeast High School families Thursday night and began investigating.

In a note sent out to Northeast High families Thursday evening from Assistant Principal Brad Hutson, the threat is being taken seriously and the school has responded by increasing the law enforcement presence at the school Friday.

“We have been made aware of rumors circulating on social media regarding a threat of school violence. Please know school safety is our top priority, and we take every rumor seriously,” Hutson said.

“Law enforcement is investigating the social media post and there will be extra law enforcement presence at school tomorrow. Thank you for your understanding and support,” he continued in the note.

Johnson continued by asking that if students, parents or members of the public see threats of violence or rumors of such being made on social media or in schools, to say something.

“I cannot emphasize enough the importance of students or any community member reporting concerns of school violence to officials, not posting or reposting rumors or threats on social media,” Johnson said.
