CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Northwest High School will be closed Monday and Tuesday due to storm and flood damage over the weekend.
A memo sent out to NWHS families from Principal Jessica Peppard said the school’s basement experienced flooding that damaged the electrical systems.
“(Clarksville-Montgomery County School System) and CDE crews are actively addressing the situation, but our school will not be operational for classes tomorrow or Tuesday due to the significant damage,” Peppard’s memo said.
According to Anthony Johnson, chief communication officer for CMCSS, those crews are still assessing the situation and the full extent of the damage is not yet known.
“However, it appears sump pumps in the basement failed during the heavy rains yesterday which caused a few feet of water to collect in the basement, reaching some electrical systems and causing failures of those systems,” Johnson told Clarksville Now.
The school is expected to reopen on Wednesday, but there will be continued communication to NWHS families via social media and School Messenger.
