A partnership between National Guard buddies that started with snowmobile repair has taken off to become Clarksville’s high-end firearms dealer.
Tactical Edge, co-owned by local veterans William Boswell and Robert “Bobby” Snyder, is in its eighth year of business.
What gives Tactical Edge the business edge is that they run the store differently than others in town.
“We are very caught up with new shooter trends and products; we stay updated with all the latest brands,” Boswell said. “We are more high-end than anyone else in town, for both firearms, and firearms accessories and gear.”
How it started
The business was born in Bobby Snyder’s garage.
“Me and Bobby were in the same National Guard unit in Illinois,” Boswell said. “At that time we were working on snowmobiles in his garage just for a bit of extra money. Then his wife got stationed to Fort Campbell, so he moved here and started selling random gear on eBay out of his garage.”
Boswell was in college, learning welding and metal fabrication.
Snyder wanted to make things official and start a business, so he called Boswell and pitched the idea. “I ended up dropping out of college and moving to Tennessee,” Boswell said.
At first, they stuck to the garage, selling online and at small gun shows. That led to a small retail location for accessories, then an expansion. Things really took off when they started building their own guns. They moved to a much larger manufacturing facility, and they now have two facilities, a retail store and about 25 employees.
Today, Tactical Edge is both a firearms and accessories retailer, with that part of the business handled by Boswell, and a full-blown rifle manufacturer with a nationwide dealer and distributor list, operated by Snyder.
Biggest selection
Tactical Edge has the most rifle accessories in Clarksville, and with the biggest selection. “We have the most gear in town with tons to choose from for different kit setups if you’re a soldier or civilian,” Boswell said.
Coming soon are a full medical supply section and a large rescue section.
“Our staff is the most friendly and most knowledgeable about new technology and accessories,” he said.
Among the brands sold are Glock, Cz, Sig, Smith and Wesson, Daniel Defense, Bravo Company, Magpul, SureFire, Trijicon and Holosun.
When it comes to gear, they sell Highspeed, Warrior assault, Vertx, Eagle industries and Eberlestock among others.
