CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – For the first time in their 2020-21 campaign, Austin Peay football will not be facing a team making its season debut when they hit the road Sunday to take on Southeast Missouri.
The Governors make their return to the gridiron after a bye week for another OVC contest. This time, it’s with the Redhawks.
APSU came out victorious when the two schools last met in 2019, but each program also finished with a share of the conference championship that year. It was the first league title won by the Govs in over 40 years.
Austin Peay will look to string together back-to-back wins after defeating Tennessee State nearly two weeks ago at Fortera Stadium 27-20 in what was also first-year Governors head coach Scotty Walden’s first victory with his new team.
Sophomore running back Brian Snead ran wild against the Tigers to the tune of 227 yards and three touchdowns. On his way to a career game, the former Ohio State Buckeye set the NCAA Division I record for most rushing yards in a single quarter with 204.
While the passing attack continues to be a struggle with true freshman quarterback Draylen Ellis under center, look for Snead to be even more involved in the offensive game plan against the Redhawks.
On the defensive side for the Governors, do not be surprised if senior defensive back Kordell Jackson affects the game in some way.
The 2019 FCS All-American first-team selection made his first interception of the season against TSU, and also blew up a play in the backfield to record his fourth tackle for loss on the year.
Austin Peay (1-4, 1-1 OVC) travels to take on SEMO (1-2, 1-1 OVC) Sunday, March 14 at 2 p.m. at Houck Field.
The game will be streamed live on the ESPN+ app, and the radio broadcast can be heard on 104.1 FM/540 AM ESPN Clarksville.
