CLARKSVILLE, TN – The Clarksville Tree Board and Clarksville Parks & Recreation’s Forestry Division will host the annual Arbor Day Celebration this week by giving away 1,100 bare-root tree seedlings.
The drive-through event will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, March 5, at the Smith-Trahern Mansion, 101 McClure St.
The Montgomery County Master Gardeners will be on-site to assist in the distribution. For safety, participants are asked to remain in their vehicles. Volunteers will approach each vehicle to obtain the tree order. Seedlings are limited to five per person.
“As trees grow, they help stop climate change,” said Kathrine Killebrew, city forester of Clarksville Parks & Recreation Department. “Trees provide many benefits to us every day. We encourage all citizens to be a positive part of a great change. ”
Seedlings available will include:
- Bald Cypress: height 50-70 feet, spread 25 feet., medium growth rate.
- Virginia Pine: height 15- 60 feet, spread 20+ feet, slow growth rate.
- Overcup Oak: height 45-70 feet, spread 35-50 feet, medium growth rate.
- Burr Oak: height 70-80 feet, spread 80 feet, slow growth rate.
- Indigo Bush: Native multi-stemmed perennial shrub, height 8-15 feet, spread 8-10 feet, fast growth rate.
- Button Bush: Native multi-stemmed perennial shrub, height 6-12 feet, spread 12-18 feet, moderate growth rate.
- Shortleaf Pine: height 50-100 feet, spread 35 feet, slow growth rate.
- Water Oak: height 30-100 feet, spread 35 feet, fast growth rate.
- Pecan: Height: 70-100 feet, spread 40-75 feet, moderate growth rate.
- Northern Red Oak: 30-75 feet, spread: 60-75 feet, fast growth rate.
