CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Austin Peay men’s basketball senior Terry Taylor hit a career milestone Thursday in the Governors’ 95-79 victory at Eastern Kentucky.

With 4:30 left to play in the first half, Taylor grabbed an offensive rebound and then flushed it home to surpass Bubba Wells as the all-time leading scorer in program history.

“It means the world to me that I achieved this milestone,” Taylor said. “I honestly didn’t see this happening. It just shows that keeping faith in God and working on my craft day in and day out pays off in the long run.”

Taylor finished the night with 30 points, 14 rebounds and four assists to increase his points per game to 21.3 and rebounds per game to 10.9 for the season.

The standout guard/forward continues to climb the OVC scoring ranks as well and currently sits in sixth place all-time with 2,285 career points.

“I have to thank my teammates and coaches,” Taylor said on how he got to this point. “They helped me every step along the way.”

The Bowling Green, Kentucky, native has been named to several award watch lists this year such as the Lute Olson Award, Jerry West Award and Lou Henson Award.

Taylor remains the only active Division I player with 2,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds. He also has a chance to become the first two-time Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year since former Murray State Racer Isaiah Canaan accomplished the feat in 2013.

The Govs (11-6, 7-4) have now won three straight games and will be looking to make it four in a row when they travel to take on Morehead State Saturday, Feb. 6 at 1 p.m. in a conference showdown.

“Right now, we’re focused on winning Saturday, but all I want for my teammates and the city of Clarksville is to bring home the OVC championship and to go dancing in my final year,” Taylor said.
