CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Groundhog Day is on Tuesday, Feb. 2, and this age-old tradition predicts when we will see the first signs of spring.

Groundhog Day derives from the Pennsylvania Dutch superstition that if a groundhog emerging from its burrow on this day sees its shadow due to clear weather, it will retreat to its den, and winter will persist for six more weeks.

However, if it does not see its shadow because of cloudiness, spring will arrive early.

With a 60-degree day and a snow prediction this week, we’ve seen the best of both worlds. What do you think Punxsutawney Phil, the infamous groundhog, will predict?
