CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ky. – A crash involving a semi-truck and a Fed-Ex truck was reported on Fort Campbell Blvd. directly after the Wal-Mart distribution center, just north of the KY 756 Intersection Wednesday around 11: 30 a.m.
According to a report from the Hopkinsville Police Department, the Fed-Ex truck was parked facing northbound on the shoulder in the right lane to deliver a package at the time of the collision. The driver of the semi, Darren Hiltabidel, was traveling in the same lane.
Hiltabidel said he looked at his mirrors, and looked down when something hit his foot. At this point, the semi hit the Fed-Ex truck’s rear bumper, causing it to spin around and hit a tree.
The driver of the Fed-Ex truck, Jewell Crumble, said he could see the semi in his mirror and braced himself for the collision. He told police he was partially parked in the lane to avoid ice on the shoulder.
Hiltabidel was transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center, and Crumble was taken to Gateway Medical Center. Their conditions were not released.
Traffic headed toward Hopkinsville was blocked for several hours while crews cleaned up the site.
