CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – After picking up a 5-0 shutout win over Munford in the Region 7-AAA semifinals on Monday, Clarksville High girls soccer fell 2-1 at Arlington in the region championship on Wednesday.

“The loss hit hard and is a tough one,” said Lady Wildcats coach Sara Kluttz. “It is one thing to just get beat by a team that is better than you, but tonight I felt like we dominated the game and did not end up with the result. We dominated possessions, created multiple scoring chances, but we just could not finish.”

The Lady Tigers mounted a comeback after trailing 1-0 early on. With 21 minutes remaining in the first half, Maggie Presley converted on a penalty kick to put Arlington in front for good.

Ellie Wiggins scored the lone goal for CHS which was assisted by Ella Roth.

Despite the loss, Clarksville moves on to the 3A sectional and will play on the road against Houston Saturday, Oct. 24.

“Most of our work will be on mental focus as we prepare to travel back to Memphis to take on Houston in the sectional match,” Kluttz said. “We have to own this loss, but not let it define our future. May it just be part of our story. The good news is, we have put ourselves in position to earn one more shot. Our dreams are still alive. If we win Saturday we will be state bound. If we lose, we will be done.”
