CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Art lovers returned to downtown Clarksville on Thursday, Oct. 1, to meet local artists and support businesses during the First Thursday ArtWalk.

The Downtown Clarksville Association-run ArtWalk usually continues over the summer, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this is Artwalk’s first show since March. This month’s art included paintings, fashion pieces, commentary on fashion and wood-burning art.

Visitors meandered between the galleries hosted by downtown businesses like Journey’s Eye, Roxy Regional Theatre and the Downtown Artists Cooperative.

The Roxy Regional Theatre’s Peg Harvill Gallery featured the art of local artist Peggy Bonnington, and her works will be up for viewing throughout the month.

Jackie Lewis, a local artist whose works were displayed in several of the galleries, was at Edward’s Steakhouse selling jewelry and paintings that combined wood-burning and wood-working.

“It’s just a way to get art out into the community, and get people involved and to support local restaurants and retailers,” Lewis said.

The Downtown Artists Co-op hosted a show curated by Jennifer Ingalls called “You Wear It Well: Costumes to Couture.” The exhibit featured a wide variety of art mediums and artists. All of the works served as a commentary on fashion, or utilized materials normally associated with fashion.

Journey’s Eye Studio hosted the works of Noel Rennerfeldt. He is the associate professor of Scene Design at Austin Peay State University, and Rennerfelt was signing prints of his Clarksville Collection of paintings.

The Customs House Museum was open also for the ArtWalk, and extended their hours to take part in the event.

“It feels great to be back. We’re super excited about seeing all of our guests, and for them to come visit us again,” Customs House Museum Store Manager Laura Rone said.

ArtWalk is held in Downtown Clarksville every first Thursday in the area of Franklin Street and Strawberry Alley from 5 -8 p.m. For more information, visit their Facebook page.
