Montgomery County, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW)- The Montgomery County Health Department reported the seventh death due to COVID-19 on Thursday, June 25 and an increase in the number of positive COVID-19 results.
In a two week period, Montgomery County has seen approximately 125 additional positive cases, according to Joey Smith, director of the Montgomery County Health Department.
On June 10, there had been 9,545 total tests administered. On June 26, that number was 12, 402- approximately 2,807 tests administered in little over a two-week period.
According to statistics on June 10, there were 169 active cases in Clarksville-Montgomery County and four deaths. There were 29 people who had been hospitalized due to COVID-19 and 309 total positive cases since the first case in Montgomery County in March.
On Friday, June 26, there was a total of 257 active cases in Clarkville-Montgomery County and seven deaths. There are now a total of 34 people who’ve been hospitalized and 434 total positive cases. At this time 170 people have recovered.
TDH has hired two additional contact tracers that started this week, Smith said.
The contact tracers are calling all of the identified contacts to let them know that they may have possibly been exposed to COVID-19. Many of the people exposed have been coming in to get tested, Smith said.
The first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Montgomery County was reported on March 19, 2020. The first death in Montgomery County was reported on April 4, 2020.
Despite the numbers growing, the rate of positives has went from 3.2 % on June 10 to 3.5% as of June 25- not a huge jump when the positive results are compared with the negative results, number of tests administered and hospitalizations and compared against like-sized cities.
As of June 25, in Tennessee there have been 38,034 cases of COVID-19 reported to the state health department. Approximately 567 people have died in the state due to COVID-19.
