CLARKSVILLE, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – In recent years, downtown Clarksville has become home to many restaurants, coffee shops and breweries, each offering their own unique experience. The newest addition the area, Trazo Meadery is excited to offer a selection of meads made locally in Adams, Tennessee.
For those unfamiliar, mead is a type of honey wine. It has three core ingredients, honey, water and yeast, though fruits and grains can be added for flavoring. Mead is found in cultures around the world and comes in many different varieties.
Trazo is a family business owned and operated by David, Becky, and Travis Powell. Travis took up beekeeping at a young age from his grandfather.
Occasionally, Trazo will use their own, local honey in mead making, though they also import honey from around the world in order to achieve different flavor profiles.
Their selection includes things like Brazilian Quince, Wildflower (aged on either rum or bourbon barrels), mesquite, orange blossom and more. Travis said his favorites are the Brazilian Pink Pepper and Wildflower on Rum Barrel.
Trazo’s new downtown location will operate alongside their primary location in Adams, Tenn, offering their selection of meads and ciders as both 1oz flights and full servings. They will also serve meat and cheese charcuterie boards, and patrons will be allowed to bring or order food from other locations. Travis compared Trazo to a wine-bar experience.
Travis was particularly excited to become part of Clarksville’s Downtown Community.
“We are really lucky to get in here at the time that we did. We picked this space, it’s Clarksville, Clarksville’s growing,” said Travis. “It’s just a really cool building. It’s a beautiful area down here and we kinda got lucky. Just after we signed our lease, the convention center was announced, and we’re glad to be here when we are.”
“It’s really cool to see how Clarksville is growing, and I am glad to be a part of it,” he continued.
Travis also commented on what it was like to open during the current period of social distancing.
“We were actually [scheduled to open] a few days before the Governor issued the first stay at home order, and we decided to push it back a few weeks just to see how things were going.”
Trazo will continue with its grand opening on Friday, May 8. Precautions will be taken to ensure the health of guests and staff alike, including limiting seating to 25 people at a time.
