NASHVILLE, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – President Donald Trump has announced plans to visit Nashville on Friday, March 6, to view damages to the city caused by a devastating tornado earlier this week.

“Our hearts are full of sorrow for the lives that were lost,” said President Trump in a statement on WKRN.

Early Tuesday, March 3, an EF-3 tornado carved a path of destruction through Nashville and surrounding areas, destroying homes and businesses. At this time, 24 people are confirmed dead with many more injured. Many residents remain without power, water, or stable housing.

It is not uncommon for the President to visit U.S. cities following large-scale tragedies. Trump has made similar visits to Pittsburgh, El Paso and Las Vegas following mass shooting events in those cities, and surveyed hurricane damage in Florida, Puerto Rico, Texas and the Carolinas.

According to a statement from the White House; during his visit, Trump will tour areas damaged by the storm and offer support to Tennesseans.

On Tuesday, Trump spoke by phone with Governor Bill Lee to offer “condolences for the lives lost and the families and communities impacted,” according to a White House statement. “The President underscored that the Federal Government will help the people of Tennessee respond to and recover from this tragic incident.”

Following his visit, Trump plans to visit the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta following confirmed cases of Coronavirus in the state.
