CLARKSVILLE – After playing three matches in three days a week ago, Austin Peay State University women’s tennis will play just once this week, when they travel to Indianapolis for a 3 p.m., Friday, match against IUPUI to wrap up the non-conference schedule.

Through the first eleven matches of the season, the Governors have been led in doubles play by their No. 3 pairing of Ana Albertson and Sarah Heckel. The senior-freshman duo has played to an 8-2 record this spring, including wins in each of their last two matches.

Fabienne Schmidt and Aleks Topalovic have been the Govs No. 2 doubles duo this spring, and they have posted a 7-2 record this spring. Schmidt and Topalovic’s seven doubles wins is the second best mark on the team. The Governors No. 1 doubles pairing has been Danielle Morris and Jana Leder each time out this spring, and they have played to a 6-4 record.

In singles play, Leder leads the Governors with ten wins this spring while playing on the No, 3 line. The German freshman won the first nine singles matches of her Austin Peay career, before finally dropping a match last time out against Middle Tennessee.

Schmidt and Morris have manned the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions for the Governors, with each posting eight wins already this spring. Sophmore Martina Paladini-Jennings owns the longest singles winning streak for the Govs, having won back-to-back matches while playing in the No. 4 position. Paladini-Jennings has seven times this spring, which is good for the third best mark on the team.

Topalovic has played on both the No. 4 and No. 5 lines this spring, racking up a total of five wins. Freshman Sarah Heckel has split time between the No. 5 and No. 6 positions for the Governors, and has posted a 6-3 record this spring. Finally, Albertson has played exclusively in the No. 6 singles position this spring and has recorded four wins in the process.
