CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Rossview girls basketball picked up another district win over rival Clarksville Friday at home. With the victory, the Lady Hawks have now won 14 of their last 15 games after starting the season with a 2-2 record.

Rossview girls basketball coach Justin Woods applauded the effort his team showed throughout.

“I thought we played well on both ends,” Woods said. “I believe we defended really well and pushed the ball to get some easy baskets. We were looking in the right places and made some great passes. Overall, when you’re getting good shots, you have to feel pretty good.”

After trailing 8-5 early in contest, Woods called a timeout to talk things over with his group. The Lady Hawks then closed out the opening quarter on an 8-0 run, as Ever Walker knocked down a three-pointer at the buzzer.

“We had given up three layups in a row,” Woods said. “All we talk about is keeping them in front of us and we weren’t doing that. When we settled in and stopped letting them drive around us, we were able to get stops and rebounds. It led to transition and our offense kind of got rolling.”

Rossview’s frontcourt duo of Kayla Gilmore and Courtney Daniels combined for 27 points on the night and gave the Lady Wildcats fits on the interior.

“They’re seniors and have been in this game a lot,” Woods said. “They’ve both played well for us all year. They’re two of our leaders and in a big game that’s who you expect to do most of the heavy lifting. They did that tonight.”

Walker hit a step-back three in the third quarter to extend Rossview’s lead to 30-21. The senior had an equally as impressive block on the other end of the floor in the second quarter, showing a lot of emotion after each play.

“I just love the game of basketball,” Walker said. “I was feeding off of my team, the energy and the support.”

Since suffering a one-point loss against Henry County, Woods has seen his group come together and play high-quality basketball as of late.

“We simplified things,” Woods said. “We were trying to do a little too much earlier in the year. We defined some roles for our girls and once we started playing a little more, we got the chemistry and rotation down. Basketball is a rhythm game. This time of the year, you’re playing every Tuesday and Friday. I think when you know what to expect it’s easier to get in that rhythm.”

Daniels had a team-high 16 points for Rossview followed by Gilmore with 11 points.

Erin Lackey led all scorers with 19 points while Alexis Wimberly added six points for the Lady Wildcats.
