MUNFORD, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Clarksville football completed an unforgettable fourth-quarter comeback Friday, Nov. 8 against Munford, escaping with a 29-28 win to advance to the second round of the Class 5A playoffs.
After falling to the Cougars 42-14 in the opening round of the postseason two seasons ago, the Wildcats redeemed themselves by pulling out their first playoff victory since 2010.
Clarksville trailed 21-13 at the break in a first half that featured two touchdowns from senior quarterback Colby Cook.
Munford looked to be in complete control up 28-13 with 10:44 remaining in the contest.
The Wildcats’ two-quarterback system paid dividends down the stretch, as Davin Garinger threw a pair of touchdowns to cut the deficit to 28-26.
With 1:46 left to play, Wildcat kicker Zach Langford connected on a 19-yard field goal for the eventual game-winning points.
Clarksville (7-4) moves on to the second round of the playoffs and will face off against Region 7-5A foe Henry County (9-2) at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, marking the first-ever postseason meeting between the two teams.
