CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Austin Peay men’s basketball kicked off the regular season Tuesday, Nov. 5, as the Governors welcomed in Oakland City to the Dunn Center. The Gov bench outscored the Mighty Oak bench 56-16 en route to a lopsided 110-67 victory.
Six players finished in double figures for Austin Peay, including two true freshmen.
In the opening quarter, Terry Taylor, Antwuan Butler and Jordyn Adams combined for 15 of the Governor’s 20 points out of the gate.
Butler got off to a fast start, putting up 11 points in the first 20 minutes of the contest. Austin Peay padded its lead to 56-35 at halftime.
Adams, an Austin Peay freshman guard, continued to score at the rim throughout. He netted 11 first-half points and finished the game with 20. The newcomer from Texas became the first Governor since at least the 1999-00 season to score 20 points in his first regular season contest.
The bigs carried the load for the APSU offense in the second half. Junior Sita Conteh nearly recorded a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds while Terry Taylor scored 14 of his game-high 21 points in the third and fourth quarters.
Fellow newcomers Reginald Gee and Sam DeVault also reached double figures in their Austin Peay debut.
Austin Peay (1-0) travels to Taylor’s hometown of Bowling Green, Kentucky to face Western Kentucky at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, as the Governors kick off a three-game road trip.
