CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Austin Peay men’s basketball kicks off the 2019-20 season Tuesday, Nov. 5 at home against Oakland City.
The Governors are coming off a season in which they finished with a 22-11 overall record and a 13-5 record in OVC play.
In year three under head coach Matt Figger, the Govs welcome in an immensely talented recruiting class.
After losing four starters and a significant amount of depth off of the bench, the incoming freshman class will undoubtedly be counted on to play ample minutes this season.
Austin Peay’s offense will likely go through Preseason OVC Player of the Year Terry Taylor. The junior guard/forward averaged 20.5 PPG, 8.9 RPG and shot 53 percent from the field a season ago.
Coming off of a red-shirt year, Eli Abaey will look to lead the Governor frontcourt alongside sophomore center Matheus Silveira.
Reginald Gee, Antwuan Butler, Carlos Paez along with Jordyn Adams have predominantly made up the backcourt through two exhibition games for Austin Peay. We’ll see what pairing Figger decides to start the year off with against the Mighty Oaks.
Replacing production from the likes of Dayton Gumm, Chris Porter-Bunton and Zach Glotta won’t be easy, but if the Govs hope to contend in the Ohio Valley Conference this season, they will have to find a way to.
Austin Peay and Oakland City tip off at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Dunn Center.
