CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Best of Clarksville has selected Imagination Library of Montgomery County as a 2019 charity partner. The non-profit organization has been in the community since March 2006.

The impact the organization has on Montgomery County citizens can be seen through our children. The mission of Imagination Library is to increase early childhood literacy in the community. This will have a long-term impact on school readiness, health, and life long success. Keeping young people on the path to becoming contributing citizens is a primary importance to the organization.

Studies show a correlation between childhood literacy and future decision making skills by adolescents and young adults. Children who are proficient readers by third grade have a drastically reduced risk of ending up in jail.

Imagination Library participation does not just produce one thing, but is a combination of reading, relationships established around books with parents and caregivers, increased vocabulary, ownership, and much more.

Every dollar donated by organizations such as Best of Clarksville are matched one-to-one by Governor’s Books from Birth, Imagination Library’s partner organization. Each book mailed represents and investment of approximately one dollar. For a $12 investment, and a match of $12 from Governor’s Books, a year of books are mailed to a child.

Montgomery County has approximately 9,300 children under five-years-old in the program at any given time. It costs close to $10,000 per month to mail books to Montgomery County residents.

All money donated by Best of Clarksville will only be used in Montgomery County.
