CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Rossview football will host Dickson County Friday for homecoming, as the Hawks enter the contest having won back-to-back games.

After coming off a 42-7 thrashing of Station Camp in the Hawks’ previous contest, Rossview football coach Todd Hood has seen his group improve vastly since the season opener. He believes it’s his guys up front that have made the biggest difference for his team in recent weeks.

“I think our offensive line has been our biggest area of improvement,” Hood said. “Coach Bauer and Coach Johnson spend a lot of time working with these guys and it’s starting to pay off.”

Hawks quarterback Gabe Sibert continues to impress for Rossview, growing from week to week as a signal caller. Hood shared how Sibert has come along in such a short period of time and what type of difficulties he presents for opposing defenses.

“Gabe is still learning the offense and he’s starting to get into football shape,” Hood said. “He has done a great job. Gabe is a dual threat to run and pass. His completion ratio is really good and should improve as each week goes by.”

Both Rossview running backs DiVontae Phillips and Mark Anthony Prescott have had solid starts to the 2019 season. According to Hood, each runner has their own unique way of getting things done in the Hawk backfield.

“They are totally different runners and that throws the defense off,” Hood said. “DiVontae is a smaller, quicker hard running back. Mark-Anthony is a 6-foot, 200-pound runner and he is really strong and falls forward.”

Jordan Kitchen showed off his defensive prowess against Station Camp, finishing the game with six tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. If Kitchen can continue to string together similar performances moving forward, the sky is the limit for the sophomore linebacker.

“Jordan finds the football and can hit you,” Hood said. “The game has finally slowed down a little for him and now he is making more plays and understands our defensive scheme better.”

The Cougars put up 12 points in their previous matchup against Centennial after being shut out in three straight games to open up the season.

Despite their lack of success to begin the year, Hood acknowledged a few issues the Cougars are capable of presenting his group on both sides of the ball.

“Dickson is a big and strong team,” Hood said. “They run multiple sets on offense and try to keep you off balance. Their defense is also big and they fly to the ball and they have a great kicking game.”

Homecoming week can be troublesome for coaches when it comes to having their team’s full undivided attention in practice. For Hood, keeping his players focused is of vast importance this time of the year.

“It’s always a challenge,” Hood said. “Like most coaches, we tell them homecoming is for the students and school and our job is to win the game. If we need to run extra to get their focus then that won’t bother me.”

Rossview (3-2) hosts Dickson County (1-4) for its homecoming Friday, Sept. 30.
