CLARKSVILLE, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Montgomery County Health Council and the Allies For Substance Abuse Prevention of Montgomery County (ASAP) are offering a unique training opportunity with the potential to save lives.

The two groups have partnered with the Regional Overdose Prevention Specialists (ROPS) to provide two free Narcan training sessions. Narcan, branded as Naloxone, is a medication given as a nasal spray that counters the effects of an opioid overdose.

During the training, individuals will learn how to identify an overdose and administer Naloxone. At the completion of the training, attendees receive a certificate and two doses of Nalxone. The training is free and open to the public. Everyone is encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to learn about and receive this life saving medication.

The first training will be held on Tuesday, August 20 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Montgomery County Health Department. Space is limited, and attendees are asked to RSVP in advance by contacting Shirley Corker at shirley.corker@tn.gov.

The second training will be held on Wednesday, August 21 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Civic Hall at Veteran’s Plaza. Guests may sign-up for this training online.

In addition to the training next week, ASAP and ROPS provide free Narcan training on the third Wednesday of each month from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Civic Hall at Veteran’s Plaza. These training sessions are open to the public.
