CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Northwest High School named Jason Greene as their new athletic director July 31.
Greene isn’t a stranger to academia, sports or the city of Clarksville for that matter, as the newest Viking AD has quite the local background.
“I’m a graduate of Dickson County High School where I played baseball,” Greene said. “I have degrees from Tennessee Tech, Austin Peay, and Arkansas State. I also taught math at Rossview for 12 years and coached boys’ golf for seven years prior to Northwest.”
The allure of the athletic director position at Northwest drew Greene in for a multitude of reasons.
“The opportunity to work with coaches and student athletes in addition to my other administrative duties is exciting,” Greene said. “I appreciate the importance that sports can play in individual lives, the school, and the community.”
Greene believes that the program he inherited is already in good standing and is focusing solely on continuing its upward projection.
“I don’t think there are any immediate changes that will take place in the policies and procedures,” Greene said. “Mrs. Peppard (Jessica) did a fantastic job of creating cohesion and unity within the athletic department during her time as athletic director. I just plan to continue with the work she started.”
Winning and losing is oftentimes associated with whether or not a program is deemed successful. However, according to Greene, this isn’t the case and he thinks a school’s success or lack thereof shouldn’t entirely be predicated on just what happens on a field or court.
“Are our student athletes better prepared when they leave us than when they came to us,” Greene answered. “Are they bigger, stronger and faster physically? Are they ready to handle the rigors that will come with sports and life as they progress through and from high school? If we answer yes to these questions, then we are successful.”
Greene has enjoyed getting acclimated to his new school and says the students and faculty have been great since his arrival.
“The staff at Northwest is incredible,” Greene said. “They have been very welcoming and patient as we go through this transition period. “We will continue to build upon the strong tradition of athletics at Northwest High School.”
