CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Clarksville-Montgomery County Regional Airport became the 122nd Green Certified Organization in Clarksville-Montgomery County at a green ribbon cutting on August 1.

In attendance were Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts, Chief of Staff James Halford Jr, Green Certification Program Manager Carlye Sommers and Green Certification Program Board Members Doug Jones and Haley Randell.

The airport already had many sustainable practices in place before beginning the process for Green Certification, including an array of solar panels installed on the roof of the main building. The program has allowed the airport to expand on those practices to further increase sustainability.

Their accomplishments include the installation of occupancy sensors throughout the main building and a commitment to convert to more energy-efficient LED lighting. Water use and waste production are also being looked at, with plans for new low-flow fixtures and reusable containers.

The airport has grown rapidly in recent years. They now house two flight schools and provide meeting space for up to 100 people. “We want to demonstrate that we have a sustainable facility that enhances our natural environment while reducing impacts,” said Josh Vaughn, the airport’s Business Development Manager.

The Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certification Program promotes environmental stewardship within Montgomery County. The free program is open to any organization with a physical location in the county and focuses on expanding recycling and improving resource efficiency.
