FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Austin Peay Govs football team paid a visit to Fort Campbell on Thursday, July 25. The team joined the 1st Brigade Combat Team “Bastogne” of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) for a day of training, team-building and leadership development.

Around 100 players and their coaches took on Fort Campbell’s Sabalauski Air Assault School obstacle course They then participated in a 3-mile tactical road march, carrying a full ruck sack and a simulated weapon, along with teamwork-challenge stations.

The soldiers and players then took part in a leadership development session led by APSU Head Coach Mark Hudspeth and Lt. Colonel Tim Sulzner, acting 1st Brigade Commander.

“We’re learning how to train like our American soldiers,” said Hudspeth. “The Army does it right and if we can become just a small portion as disciplined and as tough as our military, we’ll have a chance to win a lot of football games.”

Hudspeth also expressed his appreciation for Fort Campbell taking the time to train the players and for the the partnership Fort Campbell has with Austin Peay.
