CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Clarksville Rushing Raptors 8th/9th AAU boys basketball team competed in the Raider Three-on-Three Summer Bash at Roane State Community College in Harriman, TN on June 15. The team finished with a 5-1 overall record, capturing the championship.

The tournament format was 3-on-3 and featured a total of 10 teams.

The Raptors were led by Damiah Smith and Kearious Jones, who were able to capitalize off their opponent’s turnovers, turning good defense into better offense. Smith finished the tournament with a team-high 22 PPG. Jones added another 20 PPG. Damir Webb knocked down multiple shots from beyond the arch while Davon Martin also contributed offensively for Clarksville Rushing Raptors.

“These young men fought hard,” head coach Sylvia Smith said. “The respect and great sportsmanship shown from the losing teams was also phenomenal.”

Smith is no stranger to the Clarksville basketball scene, having previously served as a medical assistant for the Clarksville Gladiators AAU team. She began assembling her own team in March at the request of  players. The Raptors can be found practicing in various gyms throughout Clarksville, including Richview Middle School, Northeast Middle School, Northwest High School and the Trenton Community Center.

The Clarksville Rushing Raptors will return to Harriman, Tenn on August 10 for another 3-on-3 tournament. The team will then compete in a back-to-school bash hosted by the Roane State Community College men’s basketball team.
