CLARKSVILLE, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Clarksville Orioles 9U took second place in The Nationals tournament hosted by Greater Midwest Baseball on Sunday, June 14, in St. Louis, Missouri.

The Orioles finished with a record of 2-1 throughout the pool-play tournament, defeating QC Cannons out of Rock Island, Illinois and Knights Blue from Jefferson City, Missouri. Clarksville placed runner up in the AAA division after falling to Barnstormers Clutch from LeClaire, Iowa in the championship.

The Orioles played a total of three games for the tournament. Anderson McAfee batted .600 with three doubles, a triple, and a team-high of seven runs. Harrison Smith went 7-for-10 with a double, and Paxton Peterson led Clarksville with eight hits and two doubles. As a team, the Orioles finished with a .398 team batting average and a .524 on base percentage.

Jace Gerwitz was the winning pitcher in each of Clarksville’s two victories.

During opening ceremonies, the Orioles won four out of six on-field competitions. Ethan Pickett took first place in a Bubble Gum Blowing Contest by blowing the largest bubble of anyone at the tournament. Gerwitz won the Golden Arm award, hitting the most targets from the pitcher’s mound in the 9U division. Peterson took home the Fastest Man in the World award, recording the quickest time rounding the bases, and McAfee won the 9U Homerun Derby.

The Clarksville Orioles 9U team is led by head coach Miller Boisseau. The assistant coaching staff consists of Brad Fields, DeAunta McAfee and Derek Smith.
