CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) — Montgomery County leaders continued discussion on the tax rate at the County Commission meeting Monday night. At this time of year, the County budget process is usually complete. The County begins operating under a new budget. Until the certified tax rate was received by the state, which was provided Thursday, June 20, the budget could not be finalized.

City and county property tax rates are automatically reset to revenue-neutral rates during a reappraisal year. The governments must then decide whether to leave the rate as-is, raise it or lower it.

In a video produced by the County, Mayor Durrett explains why he proposes keeping the $3.07 property rate.

Highlights of the video include staff shortages, turnover costs, an employee pay plan, employee requests, capital projects and debt reduction.

The County Commission is scheduled to vote on the Montgomery County Government budget on July 15 at 6 p.m. in a special called session.
