CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A new program at a Tennessee prison will connect offenders with the Tennessee School for the Blind.
On Thursday, June 20 the Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC) will celebrate the Grand Opening of the Braille Transcription Program at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution. This new program is the result of a partnership between TRICOR and the Tennessee School for the Blind.
The Braille Transcription programs will allow offenders at Riverbend the opportunity to learn employable skills. Work will include learning Braille and utilizing the tools necessary to transcribe printed material into braille.
The materials will be used by students at Tennessee School for the Blind.
According to officials, the program aims to provide an opportunity to have these offenders be productive while serving their sentence and also learn an employable skill that will assist them in successful reentry.
