CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) The Montgomery County Veterans Service Organization (VSO) along with Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 457 and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 4895 held their annual Flag Day Retirement Ceremony at the VFW post on Friday which was Flag Day.
Hundreds of worn, damaged, or otherwise non-serviceable American flags were properly destroyed, by burning, in a dignified manner at the ceremony. Clarksville Fire Rescue Firefighters from Station #3 and members of Montgomery County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were also on hand at the ceremony as a safety precaution as the flags were burned.
Other veterans organizations attending included members of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), and American Legion and Gold Star Wives were joined by local scouts.
For future Flag Day Retirement Ceremonies, flags can be dropped off between 8 a.m. & 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday at the VSO office, 350 Pageant Lane, Suite 308, in Veterans Plaza.
