FORT CAMPBELL, KY. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) It was a very cold Tuesday night at Campbell Army Airfield as 177 soldiers with the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB) and 52nd Ordnance Group (EOD) stepped off the plane to cheers and applause.
The soldiers were returning from a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan and marched into the hangar at the airfield for a Welcome Home Ceremony in their honor attended by family, friends and fellow soldiers.
Sergeant Zachary Powell with the 101st CAB was glad to see his family again.
“It’s actually a little over whelming. It’s been a long time coming. It’s really good to see the family again and a lot has been going on in the past nine months. Getting to see them again is a really good time,” Powell said.
The Task Force Destiny soldiers of the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade provided aviation support to U.S. coalition and Afghan forces and the 52nd Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group, 723rd Ordnance Company, provided explosive ordnance support in Afghanistan.
A flight carrying over 225 soldiers is schedule to return this Saturday with another set welcome home set for next week.
