CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Employees at Hemlock Semiconductor took part in a fundraising event supporting the community Tuesday, December 17 as they painted bowls for the Empty Bowls program. Around 45 employees and a few of their family members let their creativity flow to give back to the community.
Empty Bowls works to raise money to help feed the hungry in Clarksville-Montgomery County. The funds raised go to nonprofit organizations like Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen and Urban Ministries Grace Assistance Food Bank.
The bowls, hundreds of them, have been handcrafted by Austin Peay State University Art Professor Ken Shipley along with help from students, volunteers and local businesses. Hemlock Semiconductor employees donated funds to paint their bowls and the bowls are offered to those attending the Empty Bowls fundraising event on February 25 next year.
David Schroering, Engineering Service Manager at Hemlock talked about why the company was supporting Empty Bowls. “We’re always looking for ways to give back to the community and we wanted to do something charitable that would pull our workers together and allow them to give back,” Schroering said.
Schroering added that painting the bowls seemed like a good forum from a work stand point to be able to sit next to your colleagues and do something fun and charitable instead of work. It also gave an opportunity for more people to learn about the Empty Bowls program.
