NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A former registered nurse at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville has been charged with abuse and homicide in the death of an elderly patient.

In November 2018, working alongside the Vulnerable Adult Protective Investigative Team with the Davidson County District Attorney General’s Office, TBI Agents began investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 76-year-old Charlene Murphey.

On December 26, 2017, Murphey was a patient at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the suspect, Radonda Vaught, was a registered nurse who was part of the team providing treatment.

Agents determined Vaught’s actions were responsible for the abuse of Mrs. Murphey and her ultimate death.

Vaught is no longer an employee of Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

On February 1, 2019, the Davidson County Grand Jury returned indictments charging 35-year-old Radonda Leanne Vaught with one count of impaired adult abuse and one count of reckless homicide.

On February 4, Vaught was arrested and booked into the Davidson County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
