CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A Clarksville man who is the suspect in the stabbing death of his wife has been released from the hospital.
Clarksville police said 40-year-old Hamid Houbbadi was released from the hospital Wednesday, Oct. 24 and booked into the Montgomery County Jail around 7:30 p.m.
Houbbadi was served with a warrant for criminal homicide in connection with the death of his estranged wife, Leila Chanane.
A bond has not yet been set.
Officers responded to an ambulance call at 510 Bellamy Lane October 20 around 5 a.m. When they arrived they found Leila Chanane, 41, with multiple lacerations and incisions throughout her body. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigator determined the victim lived at 508 Bellamy Lane, based on findings at the scene. Officers later located Chanane’s estranged husband, Houbbadi, at the 508 Bellamy Lane home with self-inflicted wounds.
Police determined the Houbbadi and Chanane got into a physical fight inside the home and Chanane was fatally injured during the confrontation.
Officers also found a blood-stained knife found inside the 508 Bellamy Lane home near the suspect. Based on the victim’s injuries, it appears the knife was used during the attack.
The victim and suspect were not living together at the time of the crime. Police said there is a prior history of domestic violence in another jurisdiction.
