CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A man has been taken into custody in connection with the stabbing death of his estranged wife.
Officers responded to an ambulance call at 510 Bellamy Lane October 20 around 5 a.m. When they arrived they found Leila Chanane, 41, with multiple lacerations and incisions throughout her body. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigator determined the victim lived at 508 Bellamy Lane, based on findings at the scene. Officers later located Chanane’s estranged husband, 40-year-old Hamid Houbbadi, at the 508 Bellamy Lane home with self-inflicted wounds.
Police determined the Houbbadi and Chanane got into a physical fight inside the home and Chanane was fatally injured during the confrontation.
Officers also found a blood-stained knife found inside the 508 Bellamy Lane home near the suspect. Based on the victim’s injuries, it appears the knife was used during the attack.
The victim and suspect were not living together at the time of the crime. Police said there is a prior history of domestic violence in another jurisdiction.
Hamid Houbbadi is currently in custody and is being treated at a Nashville Hospital for his injuries. Upon discharge, he will be served with a criminal homicide warrant.
