WASHINGTON – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Tennessee Senator Bob Corker is calling for the administration to investigate the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

In a tweet Friday night, Corker criticized the Saudi government for its changing narrative about the fate of Khashoggi, who was killed in a Saudi consulate in Turkey this month.

Corker went on to say, “They can undergo their own investigation, but the U.S. administration must make its own independent, credible determination of responsibility for Khashoggi’s murder under the Global Magnitsky investigation as required by law.”

President Donald Trump says he believes Saudi Arabia’s explanation of the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi is credible, according to the AP.

He also called the announcement that suspects are in custody in the death of the Washington Post contributor is “a good first step.”

Saudi Arabia says Khashoggi was killed in a “fistfight” at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. Turkish reports have said Khashoggi was killed and dismembered by Saudi agents.

Trump says he will work with Congress on a U.S. response.
