CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A Clarksville mother who has been accused of smothering her infant child has been indicted by the Montgomery County Grand Jury on additional charges.

According to court documents, 25-year-old Sarah Scribner is now charged with two counts of felony murder and two counts of aggravated child abuse. She was originally charged with criminal homicide in April 2018.

The indictments for Scribner say she intentionally abused/neglected the infant, leading to her death.

According to the arrest warrant for Scribner, a witness said she received a phone call from her, saying she had “done something bad.”

The mother told the witness that she was trying to stop the child from crying by putting her hand over the child’s mouth and the child stopped breathing.

Clarksville police said officers responded to the home on the 200 block of Orleans Drive Saturday, April 28 around 11:41 p.m. and found the infant unresponsive and not breathing. CPD officers and EMS personnel performed CPR and the child was transported to Tennova Hospital.

The child failed to regain consciousness and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
