CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Equality Clarksville, a local organization formed to support the LGBT+ community and its allies in Clarksville- Montgomery County, and the surrounding areas, will host a Rainbow Reading event at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Library on Sunday, August 12.
The event is open to children of all ages and will be held from 1:30-3 p.m.
Equality Clarksville began hosting this event in April 2018 as an outlet for local LGBT+ families and allies.
“We noticed that the library has done a very good job of creating a collection of children’s books that are accepting and affirming to the LGBT+ community, but the collection is limited,” said Joydianne Damiani, Chair of Equality Clarksville.
Members of the LGBT+ community and its allies and local drag performer Jessica Monroe join the list of readers this Sunday. Following the reading, the books are donated to the children’s library.
“We want our children to grow up with books that affirm our support and love for our LGBT+ neighbors. We are working with the library, schools and community to make Clarksville and the surrounding areas a more tolerant and accepting community for all,” said T.L. “Drew” Kreuser, Events Committee Chair. “We know that the term ‘family’ means many different things and may include one or more parents of the same or different genders. We recognize and embrace different types of family units. We want to stack the shelves with love, acceptance, and equality.”
