SFC (Ret) Lawrence “Larry” E. Coates, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2018.
Larry entered into this life on March 4,1935 in Frederick, Maryland, son of the late Hugh and Eloise Smith Coates.
A celebration of life with US Army Honors will be held at a later date.
He was a US Army retiree, having bravely served in combat roles in both the Korean War and Vietnam and was the recipient of many medals and citations including three Purple Hearts. Larry was active in the VFW Post #11160, Military Order of The Purple Heart #457, DAV #45, and the American Legion #233. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and membership with the Montgomery County Conservation Club.
Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Virginia S. Coates; children, Wayne Coates, Edward Coates, Timothy Coates (Shellie), Barbara Bucklew; siblings, Hazel Sours and Joseph Coates; and granddaughters, Maxine and Virginia Coates. Condolences online at NaveFuneralHomes.com
