CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.- (CLARKSVILLENOW) Kenwood Elementary 5th grader Laura Gonzalez-Olaya received 2nd place out of 170 students from across Tennessee for an original design in the annual Tennessee Association of School Librarians bookmark contest.
“I entered the contest because I love doing art,” Gonzalez-Olaya said.
Laura Gonzalez-Olaya received an honorable mention in the Intermediate division. She received 1 enlargement, 25 bookmarks of her design, and an award certificate. Her librarian, Kaye Byard, received 100 bookmarks of Laura’s design and an enlargement.
The theme of this year’s contest was “Making Connections at Your School Library.” Student entries were judged by illustrator Kris Sexton in the categories of creativity, execution of the theme, and use of materials.
“Laura is a wonderful student. Her bookmark was beautiful. This honor could not have been given to a more deserving young lady,” Byard said.
