CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Summer doesn’t get much better than a playground filled with kids and popsicles. Clarksville Parks & Recreation held a ribbon cutting Thursday for the new playground at Bel-Aire Park on Marie Drive. Around 50 youngsters from the Summer Youth Program at Kleeman Recreation Center took some time to try out every fun activity while enjoying a popsicle.

Parks & Recreation Director Jennifer Letourneau talked about the new playground. “The playground is replacing one that was constructed in 1994. It had ben revamped and repainted and with the amount of use it gets out here it was time to make that repair,” said Letourneau.

Improvements include a new playground that meets current Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines and offers a play experience that everyone can enjoy regardless of their ability.

Mayor Kim McMillan was joined by the children in cutting the ribbon on the new playground. The mayor said she was excited about the site because it was very heavily used and the city wanted to take the extra effort to make sure it would be as good as it could be for the families in the neighborhood.
