CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A Clarksville man was tased after allegedly pulling a large, military-style knife on an officer during an arrest.
According to an arrest warrant, officers responded to a two-vehicle crash with injuries on the evening of April 30 at Trough Springs Rd. The suspect, 36-year-old Kevin Hickland, was speeding and driving erratically on Sango Rd. when he ran a stop sign and hit another vehicle at the intersection of Trough Springs.
The officer asked Hickland to perform a field sobriety test because of his erratic behavior, but he refused. As the officer attempted to place Hickland under arrest for DUI, he pulled away from the officer and grabbed a large, military-style knife that was strapped to his chest.
As Hickland pulled the knife out of its sheath, the officer tased him. He fell on the ground and officers said he continued to resist as they tried to handcuff him.
Police searched the vehicle and found marijuana and a pipe inside. The backpack Hickland was wearing at the time contained a semi-automatic pistol and several other knives.
Hickland was charged with DUI, possession of a firearm under the influence, resisting arrest, and simple possession. His bond was set at $60,000.
