CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.- (CLARKSVILLENOW) Kenwood Middle School celebrated the birthday of Dr. Seuss/ Read Across America with fun-filled activities from March 5 through March 9.
Each day was themed based on one of the Seuss Books. Students read passages from the books over the morning announcements, made donations to local charities, held a door decoration contest, and made time to drop everything and read.
Partners in Education sponsors, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated were on hand to judge the door-decorating contest and to read to students in the CDC classrooms.
Kenwood Middle School will host “Read with a Knight” on Thursday, March 22nd from 5-7PM There will be multiple activities for parents and students such as:
– Partners in Education partners reading to students
– Students and Parents completing an ACHIEVE 3000 lessons
– “Continue a Story”
The purpose of the “Read with a Knight” is to encourage reading at home. We want to show the students that it is fun to read with their parents.
Kenwood Middle School has also recently celebrated a 2nd place overall win in the U.S. History competition at Murray State on March 8, 2018 and 1st place for Tennessee. The school STEM teams took 1st place at the district STEM expo on Monday, March 12th and have advanced to compete at the MTSU STEM expo on April 11th.
Our 6th grade social studies teacher, Mrs. Kim McDaniel, was recognized as a nominee for the Tennessee Council for Social Studies Teacher of the Year. She was the only nominee from CMCSS.
All three grade level Choirs took part in the Middle TN Vocal Association Middle School Choral Adjudication Festival. Sixth grade choir was rated a “I-Superior” for Stage performance. Seventh grade choir was rated a “II-Excellent” for stage performance and “II-Excellent” for Music reading skills. Eighth grade choir was rated a “II-Excellent” for stage performance and “II-Excellent” for Music reading skills.
