CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Montgomery County Animal Care and Control invites the public to ‘Tails of the Trail’ for a hike with shelter dogs to provide exercise and companionship.

The hike is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 20 at 8 a.m. and begins at 616 N. Spring Street.

The ASPCA indicates that of the roughly 3.9 million dogs entering shelters per year, approximately 31 percent are euthanized. Socialization and exercise can reduce kennel related stress and anxiety and improve a shelter dog’s behavior, making them more likely to be adopted.

What to bring:

• A $10 donation is requested and greatly appreciated!

• You may bring a guest but only one dog per RSVP.

• Gatorade or water for yourself.

• Dog treats are allowed!

• Optional donations: old shirts or old jeans to make enrichment toys for the dogs and cats, dog treats, old towels, creamy peanut butter.

• No personal pets allowed.

• Load the app Woof Trax aka Walk For a Dog (Android, IOS) on your smart phone and select Montgomery County Animal Control & Adoption Service as your sponsored shelter so they can earn quarterly donations from the event.

For your Safety (and the safety of the dogs):

• You must sign a waiver from the shelter. Print and fill it out to bring with you to save time during orientation. You only have to do this once.

• Read the attached Tails of the Trail Volunteer Orientation. A subsequent orientation will take place at the event.

• No children under the age of 14 can hold the leash and all children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

• No dogs off leash at any time.
