CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Christmas means many things to many people, and there’s one event in Clarksville that brings those in need of help, and those who want to help, together for a day to share the true spirit of the holidays. That event is Warm Souls Christmas with Radical Mission Compassionate Ministries.
This year there is a new location and a new date for hundreds of homeless and financially struggling people and families to gather and celebrate. The 10th Annual Warm Souls Christmas is set for Saturday, December 23 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Austin Peay’s Morgan University Center on the campus of APSU.
Since it began in 2007, Warm Souls Christmas was always held on Christmas Eve and over the past few years took place at the Hilldale Baptist Church Family Life Center. Everything at Warm Souls Christmas is free and the event is open to the public. Along with a holiday meal there will be clothing, toys, and household goods. There’s haircuts and Christmas Family portraits which are also part of the celebration.
In fact, here are some amazing facts and figures that will warm your soul. Since 2007, the event has prepared and served meals to over 8,500 people, taken around 1,600 family portraits, provided close to 750 haircuts, and handed out more than 4,000 new toys.
Jon Vaughn, Executive Director of Warm Souls Christmas, says they are still in need of volunteers and donations for the event. Vaughn said donations can be dropped off at Community of Hope, 150 Richview Rd. on Tuesdays and Thursdays or at any Cumberland Bank Branch locations.
The Clarksville Transit System will also help spread the holiday spirit of Warm Souls Christmas by offering free rides from any bus stop within the city limits to and from APSU’s Morgan University Center.
An event of this size can’t happen without the holiday spirit and support of over 100 local churches, organizations, businesses as well as over 600 volunteers who assist close to 1,200 people who attend each year.
