CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A Clarksville man has been arrested after allegedly assaulting and injuring a police officer.
According to an arrest warrant, a second officer was called to the scene Nov. 13 shortly before 10 p.m. at Riverwood Place after receiving a call about an officer being assaulted.
A witness said he called the first officer after another woman in the apartment complex came to his residence because her neighbors were fighting. The witness said by the time he got to the apartment where the fight was happening, the suspect, 21-year-old Jacoby Agnew, was on top of the police officer (the victim) and was punching him in the face.
The witness said he tried to stop Agnew but he pushed him away. Agnew then let go of the officer and went back to his apartment.
The officer (victim) said Agnew hit him in the face, took him to the ground, and tried to strangle him.
Witnesses were later able to identify Agnew as the suspect.
Nursing staff at Tennova Medical Center said the officer suffered from a fractured jaw, according to the warrant.
Agnew was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. His bond was set at $75,000.
