CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (ESPN CLARKSVILLE) – Austin Peay State University’s (APSU) football team is finally on the rise, and national organizations are taking notice.
CBS Sports writer Barton Simmons penned a piece this week about why APSU football Coach Will Healy may be the best young coach in college football.
Simmons called it ‘miraculous’ that the Govs are bringing a 5-3 record to Orlando, Florida this weekend to face UFC after the team’s turnaround. Prior to this season, the team was on a 27-game losing streak with only one win in the past 46 games. At the time, the team was considered the worst in Division I college football.
This is Healy’s second year at Austin Peay, and it seems his coaching strategy has led to bigger and better things for the Govs. Healy had this to say about the CBS Sports article.
“It’s great that our program is getting exposure. I think the people who get to see the insides of our program on a regular basis understand how much work has been put into getting it to the point where it is now and how much work needs to be put into it to get it to the next level,” Healy said.
Healy said that he has been successful as a head coach because he was smart enough to surround myself with great people. Talking about the university administration at APSU, Healy added that he is lucky to be in a program that got support from the top.
