CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Clarksville Police Chaplain/Reverend/Dr. Modesto Martinez recently traveled to Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane Maria in order to provide satellite phones to aid communications on the island.
After the hurricane, Martinez personally experienced the anxiety associated with being unable to communicate with family members in the wake of the widespread destruction. It took him five long, stressful days to establish contact with his family and put his mind at ease. He wanted others to have the same peace of mind he experienced after determining his family was safe.
As Police Chaplain for the Clarksville Police Department and Reverend for Christian Fellowship Flock, Martinez reached out and gathered support from the Police Department, churches, and the local community to raise funds for the satellite phones.
Martinez traveled to Puerto Rico on Oct. 10 with his own funds to deliver the satellite phones, which he says have been put to good use.
The satellite minutes on the phones will be replenished as funds allow ($1 per minute). The GofundMe account through Modesto’s church, an accredited 501 (c)(3), will remain open to assist with funding for additional minutes.
